Flash Photo Compare
The photo on the right is the one with flash and the one on the left is with flash. You can see the dog is old with the flash on because of how exposed his white hairs are. One the right, he looks darker and younger than he really is. The background on the left one is less clear and you can’t really see it. On the right you can see it much better because no flash was used. On the right, the dog looks black but when seen with flash you can see that he’s actually brown. His eyes are scarier with flash on and less without. The flash catches his attention and without it, he looks away.
What should you do if your image comes out too dark or too light?
Your camera does the best job it can in working out an exposure that won’t result in too many parts of the image with too many very dark and too many very bright spots. The sun is always very bright, so the camera darkens the whole image to compensate. The solution is to let more light in. There are two well known ways of doing this.
What is a slave?
A slave in photography means that it’s like and extra flashlight on the side of the big and actual light. It helps to get even better lighting
Why do photographers bounce the flash and use a diffuser?
Bounce Flash Diffusers Bounce flash diffusers provide a different approach to softening the light. Instead of shooting the strobe forward towards the subject, they bounce the light away from the scene.
What will happen when you shoot faster than the camera sync speed?
If you used flash at faster than the sync speed you would only expose the part of the film behind the slit to the flash.
What does ETTL mean?
ETTL means evaluative through-the-lens, it uses a pre-flash before a photo is taken to improve the quality of the exposure.
What does flash synchronization mean?
Flash synchronization is the automatic process in which the cameras shutter speed is synchronized with the camera’s flash.
Do you need to meter the light if you use flash?
You need to meter the light if you use flash only if you’re to close to the subject you’re taking pictures of. If the subject or object is to close, you need to meter the light upwards. If the subject or object is far away, you leave the meter facing them directly to get better lighting.
When would you use external flash?
You’d use external flash when the room is too dark or there isn’t enough light in the place you’re shooting.
